Suspect ID'd in stabbing outside Powelton daycare

POWELTON - July 25, 2013

The suspect has been identified as 46-year-old Gary Johnson, aka Anthony Johnson.

Police describe Johnson as a homeless man.

At approximately 2:07 p.m. Wednesday, authorities were called to the 3100 block of Spring Garden Street for the report of a stabbing.

Upon arrival, police were met by the 26-year-old victim who was bleeding from several puncture and gashes to her chest, abdomen, knee and wrist.

Medics transported the victim to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where she was listed in serious condition but stable condition.

Witnesses stated they saw the suspect pushing the victim eastbound on Spring Garden Street towards 31st Street where they observed Johnson make jabbing motions into the female's body. Johnson fled on foot eastbound on Spring Garden Street.

Officers surveyed the area and noticed a man matching the description of the suspect on the 3000 block of Spring Garden Street. Johnson was stopped and police observed his hand was bleeding. He was transported to Presbyterian Hospital where he was treated and released.

Johnson is charged with Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault, Possessing An Instrument of Crime, Simple Assault and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.
