Officer fires at armed suspect in North Philadelphia

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - August 11, 2013

The report came in of a man with a gun around 1:00 Sunday afternoon.

Authorities say a 22nd district officer spotted the suspect, armed with a semi-automatic handgun, at Huntington and Warnock streets.

According to police, the suspect ran to 11th and Huntington streets and lifted the gun into the air.

The officer fired twice. The shots missed the suspect but struck a car window.

The suspect did not fire but dropped the gun and his identification, fleeing to the 2600 block of Sartain Street.

Police say the suspect tried to blend into a crowd but was identified by an officer and taken into custody.

The name of the suspect has not been released.
