It happened around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday on the 3000 block of Hartville Street near Indiana.
Authorities say according to witnesses the 17-year-old had gotten out of a truck and walked into a home on the block.
The gunman followed the teen and fired several shots through the door.
The victim was struck in the back. He was transported to Temple University Hospital by private vehicle and was pronounced dead.
Police have taken several witnesses in for questioning.
So far no word on a motive or any arrests.
