PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A man has been charged in the murder of a Philadelphia teenager who was shot while walking to school, but police say the investigation is far from over.

Charges were announced Wednesday against 20-year-old Taamir Cole, who police say was one of at least four people who tried to rob the victim, 15-year-old Devin Weedon.

"I miss my son a lot. I got a little piece of justice," Weedon's father, Gary, said about news of the charges.

Weedon was walking to Simon Gratz High School in the Tioga-Nicetown section on March 28, 2023, where he was a star student.

"A good kid here. He's playing football, has got good grades, he's got everything going for himself," Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel said of Weedon.

Authorities revealed that Cole was actually arrested back in April for a robbery that happened the night before Weedon was shot.

Cole has already been tried and convicted for that robbery.

While Cole has been charged with murder for his alleged participation in the crime, police say he was not the gunman.

The search for the person who pulled the trigger, as well as the other suspects, continues.

"One minute you hug him and say you love him, the next minute you get a phone call saying he was shot," Gary Weedon said.

Police went on to say they believe the group is responsible for multiple robberies around the same time in Northwest Philadelphia.
