NEWARK, Del. (WPVI) -- A stolen car slammed into a historic church in Newark, Delaware on Monday morning, causing serious damage.
It happened around 4:30 a.m. at Saint John A.M.U.P. Church on New London Road.
Newark police say they were first called to a nearby car dealership for reports of suspicious activity involving a black vehicle.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle as it pulled out of the dealership, but the driver did not stop.
A short time later, that car slammed into the church, sending both occupants to the hospital.
Police confirmed that the vehicle was reported stolen in Pennsylvania.
Representatives from the city were called in to assess the structural integrity of the building.
The incident remains under investigation.
The crash marks the second time within a year that the church has been struck. The other incident happened on August 9, 2024.
