Reservist teacher challenges denial of pay

EASTON, Pa. (AP) - January 2, 2008

Gregory Spadoni began teaching in Easton's Middle School in 1976. In 2004, he was called to active duty. He served in Guantanamo, Cuba, until March 30, 2005.

Spadoni claims in a federal court lawsuit that when he returned, his pay was reduced, prorated to adjust for the school days he missed.

Spadoni's lawsuit also says he has repeatedly been denied benefits, including sick days, vacation days, contributions to his pension, and medical benefits.

The lawsuit says the school district has violated public policy and fair dealing. It asks for more than $75,000 and a jury trial.
