NJ Legislature weighs in on Fort Monmouth closing

The New Jersey Legislature is likely to join the growing chorus of state leaders who oppose the closing of Fort Monmouth. The Assembly is set to pass Monday a resolution urging reversal of the decision to shut the Army base. The Senate previously passed the resolution.

Fort Monmouth was targeted for shutdown by the federal Base Realignment and Closure commission.

However, costs of shutting the base and moving its operations to Maryland have skyrocketed to $1.5 billion.

The resolution says the BRAC commission may have voted differently if it had access to all relevant information - including the true cost - before making its decision.
