New Castle teen beaten for his cell phone

New Castle County Police are investigating an assault and robbery of a 17-year-old male who was accosted while walking home in Manor Park. Police were called to a home in the 100 block of Lea road on Monday night, April 7th, at 9:30 p.m., for a report of a robbery that just occurred. When police arrived, they contacted the teen, who was being treated by emergency personnel. He was bleeding from injuries to his head and face, and reported he was walking home when he was approached by a green mini van. According to the victim, one of the occupants of the van said something to him just before he was struck from behind by an unknown assailant. During the assault, the suspect(s) stole the victim's cell phone.

While at the Christiana Hospital, doctors discovered the victim had sustained a fracture to his vertebrae and large lacerations to his face.
