Tax tips

April 15, 2008 Times have changed, tax-wise. Thanks to home computers and do-it-yourself software, fewer people will spend today in a tax preparer's office.

And thanks to electronic filing, fewer will be making that midnight rush to the post office. But one taxpayer in ten still will not have filed a return when the deadline day arrives.

If you can't get your information together by the midnight deadline, fill out and send in extension form 4868. Then, you will have until October 15th to finish your return. Download form 4868 by clicking here.

You still will have to project how much you think you will owe, and send that in with the extension.

Popular forms are available at IRS and at many post offices. You can also download them online by visiting the IRS website. Here is the link. Even if you are not required to file this year, you should anyway to qualify for a federal stimulus rebate.

And use direct deposit to get it fastest.
