Michigan State University's veterinary program is offering free eye exams to dogs that serve people with vision and other disabilities.

The exams are part of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists' National Service Dog Eye Exam Day.

Wendy Towsend is one of two Michigan State veterinary ophthalmologists who have volunteered their time for the exams.

She says service dogs "need and deserve superlative care."

The free exams also are available for detection dogs, as well as for dogs involved in search and rescue work.
