Thousands of Philadelphia municipal workers will remain on the job as their unions continue contract negotiations with the city. District Council 47, representing about 3,000 white-collar city employees, has been in talks with the mayor's office over a contract that expires at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday.

A statement from the union says both sides have agreed to extend the contract until July 15 while pursuing a new deal.

District Council 33, which represents 9,400 blue-collar workers, says it will continue negotiating with the city Tuesday. Their contract also expires after midnight.

Details of the talks are sparse, but key issues are known to be wages and health care and pension costs.
