Watermelon: passion fruit?

July 2, 2008 Researchers in Texas say the giant fruit produces a viagra-like substance.

It is a nutrient called citrulline, which relaxes blood vessels. However, citrulline is only found in the rind of the watermelon, which is rarely eaten.

Perhaps that might change.

In the meantime, scientists are trying to breed watermelons to contain higher concentrations of critulline in the more edible part of the fruit.
