Farmer introduces rare early American cattle

A 199-acre farm in New York's Putnam County is now home to early American sheep and cattle.

The seven Randall Lineback Cattle and 15 Jacob Sheep are on loan from gentleman farmer and financier George Whipple.

Whipple had the animals moved from his Pine View Farm in Kent to Tilly Foster Farm in Southeast last week. They will get an official welcoming at a Putnam County fair on Saturday.

Whipple says he hopes the rare species will turn the county-owned Tilly Foster into a "world-class farm." He intends to introduce other animals from his collection to Tilly Foster in the spring.

The farm is free to the public and is open everyday until 4 p.m.
