Chester County Judge Thomas Gavin sentenced 32-year-old David Cole of Rising Sun, Md., on Monday. Cole pleaded guilty to third-degree murder in the Oct. 5 death of 51-year-old Donna Campbell of West Nottingham Township.
Cole sobbed as he apologized for a "misguided lifestyle" including a history of drug abuse. While in prison, Cole vows, "I will become completely healed of my addictions." The judge says he hopes Cole will follow through with his statements.
Authorities say Cole and Campbell had an ongoing dispute over the ownership of her residence. Police say he stabbed her during an argument after he went to her house to ask her for gasoline. Officials say Cole then washed off the knife and left, taking her purse and wallet.
