A Long Island man who reported his gun missing has been arrested after police found it and said he'd owned it illegally.

Nassau County police say the man told them on Thursday his Cobra .45-caliber handgun had been stolen. They say an investigation led to the recovery of the Cobra handgun, a defaced Tec-9 semiautomatic handgun and a Czechoslovakia model 75 semiautomatic handgun.

Police say the man had the three guns illegally, but they won't say where they found them. They arrested the man at his Elmont home on Sunday morning without incident.

The man is charged with multiple counts of criminal possession of a weapon. He's scheduled for arraignment Monday.
