Tenative deal for 3rd Phila. city union
PHILADELPHIA - August 14, 2008
The deal announced Thursday leaves only the firefighters without
an agreement; that union enters into arbitration Monday.
The latest agreement is with District Council 47 of the American
Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, which
represents about 3,300 white-collar workers. Earlier agreements
were reached with a district council representing about 10,000
blue-collar workers and the police union.
Mayor Michael Nutter says the biggest development is that the
three unions have agreed to participate in a labor-management
committee to evaluate health care. He says he's hopeful that the
firefighters' union will participate in the committee as well.
