Game of the Week 4: West Chester Challenge

September 14, 2008 True, those descriptions are meant to provide a nice visual for any tourist looking into a great destination spot, but those four words can be used to capture something else.

That something is (you guessed it) the 6abc Game of the Week.

This Friday night on 6abc.com, it is the West Chester Challenge, as West Chester Henderson takes on cross-town rival West Chester East.

Diverse

Both these teams carry the moniker of West Chester and look to make their hometown proud, but for the Warriors of Henderson and the Vikings of East, they are looking to stand out from one another.

While, right now, the Ches-Mont Red League is being run by undefeated Coatesville and Downingtown West, Henderson is breathing down their necks, with a 2-1 record.

Meanwhile, East is embarking on a mission to not end up on the bottom of the pack, which would prove they are not the same as their 0-10 squad a year ago.

Henderson and East did have very different outcomes last season. The Warriors were able to make it all the way to the quarterfinals of the PIAA AAAA Championship by defeating Downingtown West. The Vikings, though, were not able to make it off the field at all last year a winner.

Prosperous

Sure, prosperity is mostly associated with monetary gain, but you can be prosperous in many other ways.

For instance, you can be prosperous when you win your first game in over a season. That is what East did in their first game this year when they took it to Oxford 9-7.

You can also feel prosperous when you know one game is just one game. True, Henderson's last game-day was not their best, as they left with a disappointing 0-42 shutout loss to Malvern Prep, but that was one game. The two games before, the Warriors took down both Chester and Great Valley.

Collegiate

We can go the easy route and say, 'Well, these players all would love to play college ball," but let's look at this one step further. The meaning of the word collegiate states 'of or pertaining to college,' but is also applies to intelligence, an attribute needed to win a football game.

In 2004, East was able to outplay and outwit Henderson and come out with a 28-15 win. In 2005, Henderson was able to apply its intelligence to a 37-20 victory. 2006 saw East prevail 44-19. 2007 was the year of the Warrior, as Henderson walked out the winners in a 48-7 show of dominance.

Who will play the smarter game this year and take advantage in this four-year tie?

Accessible

Accessible? This Game of the Week sure is. You can watch it live on 6abc.com at 7:00 p.m. Then see it featured on High School Huddle Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. on 6abc. Then see the rebroadcast on television on 6abc Plus (Comcast Cable, Verizon FiOS, satellite) at 8:00 p.m. Saturday night.

See, just like the town of West Chester itself, the Game of the Week is diverse, prosperous, collegiate, and accessible, but who will leave the Best in West?

The Vikings are ready to show that this is a winning year.

The Warriors are ready to answer the West Chester Challenge.

Both teams are ready to seize the moment.
