The officer got away and called 9-1-1 for help.
His car was later found at 6th and Pine Streets, but the gunman is still at large.
The officer was treated and released at Cooper University Hospital.
Officer shot during carjacking
CAMDEN, N.J. - December 14, 2008
The ordeal started on the 1000 block of Sycamore Street in Camden. Police say an armed man approached the off-duty officer. He forced his way into the officer's car. A scuffle ensued and the suspect's gun went off, shooting the officer in the leg.
