Former Camden principal sentenced

CAMDEN, N.J. - February 13, 2009 - Michael Hailey admitted last year that he stole the money by telling students they had to pay to go on field trips. The trips, though, were paid for by the school district.

He also admitted that he stole $25,000 in extra wages for workers by paying them for attending meetings that never took place.

A Superior Court judge in Camden County sentenced Hailey Friday. The 67-year-old Delran man also was ordered to pay restitution.

One of Hailey's top assistants was sentenced to probation in the extra-pay scheme.
