Deadline approaching for dog licenses

DOVER, Del. (AP) - February 24, 2009

Except for guide dogs for the visually impaired, all dogs six months and older must be licensed.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control handles licensing throughout the state except in Wilmington. Wilmington residents should contact the Delaware SPCA in Stanton or the Delaware Humane Association.

Licenses may be bought from the Division of Fish and Wildlife in Dover, or from veterinary clinics, pet stores, sporting goods and department stores. They can also be obtained online.

The licenses cost $3 a year for a sterilized dog and $6 a year for unsterilized dogs. A certificate of rabies vaccination is required.
