Police were called to a home in the 500 block of High Street in Norristown on Thursday after someone called, concerned for the well-being of the residents.
Upon entering the home, investigators say they found Donna Smith and her four-year-old daughter dead.
Police say they also found an empty bottle with a Xanax label, and a suicide note nearby.
Smith's family told police that she had a long history of personal problems, most recently having been the victim of domestic abuse.
An autopsy on both Smith and her daughter are planned for Friday.
