Cuts create public outcry

WINSLOW TWP., N.J. - May 12, 2009 Some had come to the meeting hoping to get some resolution to the 100+ jobs cut last week, but the committee has no such power. Instead it voted to make additional cuts.

In this climate voters defeated a school district budget that proposed spending to repair schools, last week the board also voted to cut 162 positions including 40 teachers to further address the publics concern.

Tuesday night some were bashing the school board for making what they call terrible decisions.

One school board member took to the podium to defend the jobs, saying the district was already a mess before he got there.

By law the committee has no say over personnel but Tuesday voted to cut an additional $519,000 from the budget.
