Police seek pair of pickpockets

CENTER CITY - May 20, 2009- That's because a pair of pickpockets have been ripping people off.

Officers have released surveillance video of the female criminals at work at a Center City café.

These may be the same pickpockets who've been plying their trade on and around the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.

Police say the women are seasoned professionals.

One of their crimes was caught on camera. It happened at a cafe at 21st and Chestnut. They very quickly identify their victim, a woman with her back to them, talking to another person.

That seems to be exactly what these pickpockets were looking for: A woman distracted and her purse out of her view, hanging on the back of her chair.

The woman in blue eyes the purse thoroughly several times. Then, she reaches in and takes a credit card from the woman's purse, then quickly pretends like nothing happened.

She then puts the credit card in her pocket book, and soon hands it over to her friend.

Soon, the women are off, and the victim still has no clue what just happened to her.

Her credit card was then used to make purchases the Nordstrom store in the Cherry Hill Mall.

Police say the women are so good at what they do, most victims assume that they simply misplaced their credit card or valuables.

Investigators believe the two women are responsible for a rash of pick pocket incidents in Center City and University City in the last couple of weeks.
