Suspect shot by police dies

MANTUA - June 24, 2009 It happened around 7:45 p.m. in the 4200 block of Otter Street.

Police were responding to a call of gunfire in the area.

Two 16th District officers were directed to the middle of the block, where a man was found in a doorway.

The man was reportedly armed with a 38 caliber gun.

The officers ordered the man to show his hands.

When the man refused to drop the weapon, police fired, hitting the suspect in the shoulder.

He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.

There were no injuries to police.
