Del. teen was running away when shot & killed

CHRISTIANA, Del. - June 25, 2009 Police are describing the shooting death of a teenager in Delaware as a robbery gone wrong. And now they are looking for two suspects linked to the death.

New Castle County police believe it's a case of two people being in the wrong place at the wrong time and while the family of the dead victim admits he was no angel, they say this was an 18-year-old young man who was just beginning to turn his life around.

"He just graduate, he was back in school, he graduated got his high school diploma and he just had his graduation and he just went up to p.a. and did his SAT's to go to college," said Chrisda Bell.

Bell never got to see her grandson, Travis Daley, go to college. She last saw him Thursday in the morgue.

"The guy there told us that he was running, he was running for his life, they shot him in the back."

Police say Daley and a 20-year-old woman were walking together at Christiana Village around 12:45 in the morning when two men wearing dark clothing pointed a gun at them and ordered them to the ground.

Investigators believe it was a random act of violence, a botched robbery attempt. Daley was shot and killed while running away he died where teddy bears now lie.

"It's not worth it, it's not worth it at all, it's pointless," said 17-year-old Binebria Dickerson.

Dickerson says she's grown tired of her gun toting peers who keep innocent children from playing in the suburban neighborhood. And Daley's grandmother says she's frustrated even more by those who won't talk to police.

"Everybody has a gun, where they're getting it from who knows, everybody has a gun and everybody's afraid because if you talk somebody is either coming back to get you or your family."

"It helps us tremendously if we get any type of cooperation it can even be anonymous we just need something to go on," said Officer First Class Tracey Duffy.

Investigators are asking anyone who has information about the murder to contact New Castle County police.
