When officers arrived, they found that a 12-year-old boy had been stabbed twice in the back by his mother, who is 34 years old. Her identity has not been released.
The boy was airlifted to Lehigh Medical Center. His condition is unknown.
Police say, after the stabbing, the mother barricaded herself inside her apartment, prompting a response by the North Penn Tactical Response Team.
The standoff ended when she opened a door to look outside. Officers took that opportunity to apprehend her.
She was taken to Lansdale Hospital for medical and mental health evaluation.
Police say the investigation is continuing and charges are pending against the mother.
