Sec. of Health visits local school

OLNEY - September 8, 2009 The Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius, visited Thurgood Marshall Elementary School in Olney.

She was joined by Mayor Michael Nutter and other politicians.

After they watched the president's address about education the group talked about the importance of kids staying healthy and about the H1N1 swine flu virus.

She also talked about the vaccine and says previous research shows flu vaccines are safe. The testing being done now is to make sure it'll work.

"The testing right now is really about finding out if we have the right vaccine, how much do we need but we think we are really on track."

Meanwhile, CDC officials said Tuesday most healthy people who get sick with the H1N1 virus will not need and should not get antiviral medication such as Tamiflu. That should be saved for people at risk for complications such as a child asthma.
