The fire broke out early Thursday morning in a house near the corner of 60th Street and Long Beach Boulevard in the Brant Beach section of Long Beach Island.
An elderly man confined to a wheel chair died in the fire. His health care worker suffered smoke inhalation, however she is expected to recover.
The county fire marshall has been called to the scene.
A nearby house was also damaged by fire.
There's no word yet on a cause.
