Man gets 15 to 30 years in bar shooting

MEDIA, Pa. (AP) - October 14, 2009

Twenty-seven-year-old Charles Howie pleaded guilty to third-degree murder on Monday in the death of 30-year-old Andre Frederick of Wilmington, Del. Frederick was shot several times in the parking lot of McKenzie Brew House in Concord Township in February 2008.

Howie apologized for his conduct, which Judge Barry Dozor called a "despicable act."

Deputy District Attorney James Mattera said the crime was over "disrespect," and Howie had jumped into the middle of an argument between the victim and another man. His plea and that of a co-defendant averted a trial scheduled to begin next week.

Defense attorney Steven O'Meara said his client has been gainfully employed in the construction trade and is remorseful.
