Larimer County officials showed up at the Fort Collins home of Richard and Mayumi Heene with a warrant around 10 p.m. MDT and at least three of them began a search. Sgt. Ian Stewart declined to say what they were after.
Hours earlier, the sheriff announced that he was pursuing criminal charges in the case, but didn't say who would be charged or what the charges would be.
The saga began this week when their 6-year-old son vanished into the rafters of his garage while the world thought he was zooming through the sky in a flying saucer-like helium balloon.
The sheriff has since been looking into speculation that the incident was a hoax.
