Corzine donates to politically important church

ORANGE, N.J. (AP) - October 20, 2009

The Rev. Reginald Jackson has told The Star-Ledger of Newark that Corzine and his foundation donated $87,000 to St. Matthew AME Church in Orange last year.

A $50,000 donation was listed on Corzine's personal tax return. The other $37,000 came from Corzine's philanthropic foundation. The foundation's financial reports have not yet been filed with the IRS.

Jackson, head of the Black Ministers Council, endorsed Corzine last week. He says the endorsement has nothing to do with the contributions.

Political opponents say Corzine uses his wealth to buy political support.
