Camden mayor-elect wants power back

CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) - November 10, 2009

Dana Redd wants her governing powers restored.

For the past seven years, the state has controlled many functions of City Hall as part of an unprecedented takeover of the impoverished city.

The incoming 41-year-old Democrat may get help from the state's Republican governor-elect. Chris Christie says he doesn't want the state running cities and supports handing control back to Redd.

Redd will replace 84-year-old Gwendolyn Faison, who has been mayor for nine years, when she takes office in January.
