Pedestrian struck and killed

HAMILTON, NJ - November 15, 2009

Police say at approximately 5:04 p.m., 76-year-old Barbara Kowalski was driving her 1998 Buick Regal east on Edinburg Road.

Kenneth Deyoung, 59, was standing in the travel portion of the road using his leaf blower in front of his residence. He was then struck by the front right corner of the Buick near the intersection of Wilson Avenue.

Police say dark lighting conditions appear to be a contributing factor in this crash.

Deyoung sustained a serious head injury and was transported by ambulance to Capital Health Systems at Fuld. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Barbara Kowalski was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing at this time. Witnesses are encouraged to contact the Hamilton Police Traffic Unit at 581-4024 or 581-4000. The investigation is being conducted by Officer Keith Layton of the Hamilton Police Traffic Unit.
