Police: Philly's Operation Pressure Point a success

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - December 1, 2009

The initiative partnered city police with state and federal agencies. It focused on 12 police districts between 4 p.m. and 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.

"Operation Pressure Point" began in April and ended in November.

Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said Tuesday that in those 12 districts during the program period, 1,775 arrests were made and nearly $5 million in drugs were seized.

Ramsey said weekend homicides were cut in half and shootings fell 11 percent in those districts.

The commissioner says the program will be renewed next year.
