2 NJ lawmakers seek money for concussion research

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - December 5, 2009

Sen. Robert Menendez introduced a bill in the Senate Friday calling for the Department of Health and Human Services to develop guidelines.

It would provide $5 million in grants to schools that adopt them and perform standardized diagnosis and treatment programs.

The bill mirrors one introduced in the House by Rep. Bill Pascrell, co-founder of the Congressional Brain Injury Task Force. Concussions have become a hot topic in the National Football League, which has tightened restrictions this season on allowing players to return after concussions.
