Philly school officer to be fired for altercation

PHILADELPHIA - December 24, 2009

Jeffione Thomas, a star running back at Frankford High School, says he was late for school Oct. 29 when two truancy officers followed him inside.

He says they jumped him and knocked him unconscious.

The school district reviewed video tape of the incident and interviewed eyewitnesses as part of its investigation.

Officials said Wednesday that they plan to fire one of the officers and discipline the other.

But the school police union says the decision will be overturned at an arbitration hearing.

After being treated at a hospital, Thomas was charged with aggravated assault for allegedly hitting the officers. He's awaiting a Juvenile Court hearing next month.
