Fifty-four-year-old Lon Sainato pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges of sexual assault and official misconduct.
Authorities say he assaulted a man assigned to paint the Cedar Knolls Firehouse in Hanover on Feb. 22, 2009.
He could be sent to prison for up to seven years when he's sentenced on April 9.
As part of his plea, Sainato agreed to forfeit his job as a Morris County sheriff's officer, his pension and the right to hold a public job in New Jersey.
