Philly police deliver baby in back of patrol car

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - March 5, 2010

The officers were on their way to a call Friday morning when a man flagged them down on the street. That's when they found the woman in labor in an apparently broken-down car.

Officers Sean McCaffery and Charles Mellon had gotten the parents-to-be as far as the hospital parking lot when they said the baby was coming - now.

No sooner had McCaffery cut the woman's pants off than the woman delivered a baby girl.

Nearby medics cut the child's umbilical cord and took the unidentified family into the hospital.

McCaffery says they're lucky he and Mellon had a car - the officers usually patrol on bikes.
