Assistant principal Kathy Cieslak told students yesterday morning the big dance is being canceled.
She announced the North Dakota school was pulling the plug on the prom because of bad behavior at past dances and a high number of detentions.
But it was just an April Fool's Day gag.
The school was flooded with calls from concerned parents.
Cieslak had intended to let the kids in on the joke later that afternoon.
But an hour later she announced it was just "a great, great, great joke."
