Take the quarterback IQ test

But first, some of them are tested in a less bruising, more traditional way. They are given a standardized test consisting of 50 questions in 12 minutes. The Wonderlic Test is a little known requirement for most draft prospects and the results are very often kept quiet.

"It can really assess, quickly, the problem solving abilities of an individual."

Jim Hofher is the quarterback coach at the University of Delaware. He helped Joe Flacco excel as the Blue Hens QB which landed him a spot as the starting quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens. He's doing the same now with Pat Devlin, who left Penn State to play at UDEL.

Hofher says the Wonderlic Test is just one component of testing a player's total talent.

"Maybe it supports what you think of a player, his mental acuity, maybe it doesn't support what you thought of a player but it's just one piece of the evaluation process."

The questions range in topic but are heavy on math.

For instance; when rope is selling at 10-cents a foot, how many feet can you buy for 60-cents? The answer is 6 feet.

Another question; a boy is 17-years-old and his sister is twice as old. When the boy is 23 what will be the age of his sister? The answer is 40-years-old.

So how did the Eagles size up? Former franchise quarterback Donovan McNabb scored 14 out of 50, Michael Vick came out with a 20 and new starter Kevin Kolb chalked up a 28 out of 50.

We gave a portion of the test to some willing volunteers.

"It's really hard," said Shana Wimmer of Center City.

"It was interesting I've been out of school for awhile and uh it was challenging," remarked Wally Redding of Mount Airy.

"It's relatively easy with like probably 2 or 3 hard problems that kind of trick ya," said Abby Rich who was visiting from Rhode Island.

One lady had two friends helping her and a cell phone calculator and still missing 9 out of 15!

"It was hard. It was very, it was a lot to think about," admitted Quaadi Muhammad of North Philadelphia.

But while our test was given for fun did those who took it see a function when it comes to how quarterback perform on the field?

"You can have as much talent as you want but if you can't think in the moment then you're not going to do anything," explained Jason Wimmer of Center City.

"I don't see how it relates to football at all but maybe with decision making and quick reaction," said Darrell Hendricks of Logan.

We did contact the Eagles for comment about the scores, the organization says players are required to take the Wonderlic Test however it considers the test a private evaluation and do not comment on matters of privacy.
