Former NJ union official convicted of embezzlement

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - May 17, 2010

Shawn Clark of Branchburg was convicted Monday after an eight-day federal trial.

A jury found him guilty of all 15 counts he faced: one of conspiracy and 14 of embezzling from the International Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners.

Authorities say he rang up more than $65,000 at 14 gentlemen's clubs in New Jersey on his union-issued credit card, which was to be used solely for union business.

On the witness stand, he described the bars as "a guys' type of place."

Clark, 45, was fired in 2008. That year, he also resigned from the board of trustees at Raritan Valley Community College.
