Church giving away house... with one catch

HAMMONTON, N.J. - May 25, 2010

There's just one catch...

"They have to move it out of here," said Pastor Jen Fox. "We'll give you a free house, but you have to be able to move it."

The house has 13 rooms split into two apartments. There's plenty of peeling paint, but it's structurally sound and most of the original doors and woodwork are intact.

The church has owned the house for about 30 years and used it for many things over that time, but at this point can't afford to pay for repairs or the cost of knocking it down.

"Since we don't have the funds to be able to maintain the house, we hope that someone else could be able to use it," said Asst. Pastor Martin Concepcion.

Anyone interested is required to submit a proposal by June 15th detailing how, where and when the house will be moved.

"We don't want somebody to string us along and say 'Oh yeah, I can do it.' We want to make sure they're really going to do it!" said church elder Betsy Mazzone.
