One of the keys to saving money on a summer vacation is to travel to resorts that are off-season, like Miami in the summer.

"I'm from Miami and I think it's a great place to go any time of the year," Weiner says. "Right now it's in its shoulder season, which means great value. It's sort of in between hurricane season and High Season, so there's great values at almost all the hotels."

Ski resorts, like Aspen, offer summer activities, like hiking, biking, and white-water rafting along with reduced hotel prices.

And as long as you're not heading to the Riviera, there are deals to be had in European city hotels as well.

And Weiner suggests a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Thailand.

"Thailand is in its rainy season, but what most people don't know is that Thailand's rainy season is beautiful," Weiner explains. "I went for 10-day vacation last summer and it rained only once while I was there, but the value that I got was uncomparable."

To save on airfare, consider the Big Apple.

"People forget about New York," Weiner says. "It's a great place to go in the summer, especially from Philadelphia. It's an hour train ride and New Yorkers tend to flee the city, which makes it a great place for tourists."
