Don't steal when looking for a job

VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) - July 14, 2010

It's a bad idea to steal from the company you're trying to get to hire you.

Police in Indiana say a pair of teens were busted when one of them swiped money from the tip jar of a northwestern Indiana ice cream shop just after they put their names on job applications.

A clerk at Pat's Ice Cream Parlor in Valparaiso says the teens filled out the applications last week.

When the clerk went to file the apps, she heard the sound of change jingling - and saw one of the boys grab money from the tip jar and run off.

The clerk chased the boy and he returned $2.

Police say the other boy said he didn't take anything, but gave the clerk his own money to keep out of trouble.

Didn't work.

They both were arrested on preliminary theft charges.
