1 dead, driver arrested in Penndel crash

PENNDEL, Pa. - August 15, 2010

Bucks County officials say the driver of the Ford Thunderbird veered right early Saturday in Penndel and was trying to turn when he lost control of the vehicle and it struck a building into which the road dead-ends.

Penndel police say police in Middletown had clocked the car at speeds in excess of 90 mph shortly before the accident. Officers tried to follow the vehicle but decided that the speeds were too great.

District Attorney David Heckler says open alcohol containers and controlled substances were found in the vehicle. Heckler says the driver and another passenger were arrested trying to leave the scene.
