Helping charities and the unemployed

NEWTOWN, Pa. (AP) - October 18, 2010

The suburban Philadelphia philanthropist pledges to donate $1,000 to charity in the name of businesses that hire an unemployed worker.

The 71-year-old says he'll spend up to a-quarter million bucks on his plan.

The newly hired workers must stay on the payroll for six months to qualify.

Some experts say the idea might get people talking about hiring -- but doubt it will result in many jobs.
