Police chase ends in violent crash in Chester

CHESTER, Pa. - February 13, 2011

Chester police tell Action News the chase began around 1:00 a.m. on Route 202 in Birmingham Township when an officer there attempted to stop a car that was reported stolen. The male driver of the vehicle refused to stop and continued on Route 202.

The vehicle then got onto Interstate 95 north before exiting off onto Exit 3 in Chester City with police right behind the stolen vehicle.

The driver then turned onto Township Line Road and then onto Renshaw Road where he lost control of the car. The vehicle struck a barrier in the 1700 block of Renshaw Road, causing the vehicle to roll across several properties before coming to a grinding halt.

The unidentified male driver was ejected from the vehicle and taken by ambulance to Crozer Hospital-Chester where he is listed in critical condition.

Police say he faces some serious charges.
