Ex-teacher in Philly suburbs is burglary suspect

RIDLEY, Pa. - February 22, 2011

Forgery and burglary are not part of the curriculum at Amosland Elementary, but Ridley police say a former 4th grade teacher there, Michael Innaurato, appears to be working on his PHD in criminal conduct.

Innaurato left his teaching job in April and then allegedly robbed his father's Swarthmore home of $6000 cash, diamond earrings, and several checks which he forged for thousands more.

"Also taken in that burglary was a 45 caliber semi automatic pistol along with several boxes of ammunition," Detective Scott Willoughby of the Ridley Police Department said.

Innaurato is wanted for at least 5 home burglaries in Delaware County - 3 in Ridley Township, 1 in Aston and Rutledge, and another in Haverford Township.

"What's important to note is that everyone of these people that are involved in these burglaries are either family members, acquaintances, or friends or ex-girlfriends of Innaurato," Willoughby said.

Investigators say gambling and drugs are likely fueling Innaurato's crimes. They say he likes to frequent Harrah's casino in Chester and he also likes cocaine.

Innaurato taught 4th grade at Amosland.

It's unclear how long he taught there.

Phone calls to the Ridley School District have not been returned, but detectives want him off the street before he graduates to armed robbery.

They do say if he you see him to not confront him.

"He's a big guy 6'5, 250 pounds, he's not someone you want to mess with," Willoughby said.

If anyone has information they're urged to call Ridley police or 911.
