Labor Day weekend fun at the Jersey Shore

OCEAN CITY - September 4, 2011

Now, a week later people are out, enjoying themselves and trying to make up for lost time.

"My last weekend of the summer was last weekend but I just needed to get away from school immediately," said Jess Kohler.

The Ferris wheel, the food, the bands and the boardwalk; summer is winding down and the shore crowd is making every ride and every bite count.

James' Candies was stocked with homemade fudge, caramel corn, and treats galore.

The holiday weekend is always good for business but shoppers are especially welcome now after Irene washed out last weekend's sales.

"Our owner said it kind of killed our business because of the mandatory evacuation but business is looking good this weekend," said Nikki Berenato, an employee at the Sea Isle City candy shop.

Business was bustling this weekend at Mike's Seafood as well. Employees are hoping it will help sales to recover.

The line wrapped the building outside as diners inside devoured the meals that they dreamt about while they were stuck at home during the storm.

"Everybody had to leave for the hurricane, so I think they're going to come back here and get as many memories from the shore as they can before it's all over," said Anthony Edward.

Whether its live music, enjoying a bite to eat or soaking up the sun on the beach, there is still plenty of time left to enjoy the holiday weekend.
