Authorities say they found $500,000 cash in a Jeep during a traffic stop in Philadelphia and are seeking the driver, who fled the scene.

It happened around 2:15 p.m. Thursday when a SWAT officer saw the driver of the Jeep Laredo make a traffic violation at Howard and Tioga.

Instead of pulling over, the driver sped away. The driver finally stopped the Jeep, got out and ran, leaving the vehicle behind.

Using a search warrant, police searched the Jeep and found a secret compartment with $500,000 inside.

Authorities say no drugs were recovered, but that authorities suspect the cash is related to drug activity.

Police say they don't have any suspects. The Jeep had New Jersey license plates.

When asked by Action News, police said that the SWAT officer was not previously involved in finding the Jeep. However, SWAT officers are empowered to make traffic stops if they observe violations.
